What has happened to “the play”, as we thought we knew it?  In recent decades the notion of “a play” as a well-made composition in dialogue, to be performed by actors on a stage, has exploded into a bewildering variety of forms.

How is work for the stage conceived, gestated and delivered these days, what does it look and sound like, and what is it about?
