Pursuit of the Real
Since the invention of motion pictures in the 1890's, the attempt to capture reality on-screen has been a foremost aim of film and
television directors throughout the world. This lecture will examine and discuss numerous and various theories, movements, aesthetics, and film and TV genres that have sought to represent "reality", or tried to explain our perceptions of it. We will also explore how, over time, our understanding and grasp of that so-called reality has been shaped and adapted by the surrounding cultural and political context.
