        Dan Riskin, PhD  

Dan Riskin is a biologist, science journalist, and author. He is best known as CTV’s Science and Technology Specialist, and as the former co-host of Daily Planet on The Discovery Channel.

Dan worked for many years as a bat biologist, with research focused on the biomechanics of locomotion. In 2010 Dan left academics to become a full-time science communicator. Dan has hosted science-based TV shows for The Discovery Channel, Animal Planet, National Geographic, CTV, and CBC. He has also appeared as a guest on CTV National NewsCNN TonightCBS This MorningThe Tonight Show, and The Late Late Show. Dan’s book Mother Nature Is Trying to Kill You was a Canadian bestseller. His first picture book (for kids!), Fiona the Fruit Bat, will come out this September.

Scientist, bat expert, and TV personality, Dan Riskin will share his passion for bats, with high-speed videos, stories from the field, mind-blowing scientific discoveries, and some unanswered questions that drive researchers to this day. He’ll also touch on the role bats have played in the COVID-19 pandemic (It’s not their fault!!! Honest!), and what the pandemic has changed for bat research.
