   Amy Leah Potter

Amy Leah is a highly experienced Canadian healthcare professional with over two decades of experience in trauma and global health. She has worked in over seven countries, which has given her a unique perspective on healthcare delivery challenges. Amy Leah's career with MSF started in Sierra Leone, where she managed pediatric, malnutrition, and neonatal units. Her experience in the small West African nation exposed her to various challenges such as infectious diseases, snake bites, and the significant health burden posed by malaria. Her next missions were in Yemen where she was part of a team that established a hospital in an active conflict zone, primarily focusing on traumatic injuries while facing additional challenges from concurrent outbreaks of cholera and diphtheria. Between her MSF assignments, she works in the Emergency Department of a large level 1 adult and pediatric trauma and burn referral center for Washington, Alaska, Montana, and Idaho. Although currently not in the field, Amy Leah looks forward to returning soon.

Lessons Learned on the Frontlines: The Daily Work of MSF from Crisis to Care

Médecins Sans Frontières/Doctors Without Borders (MSF) is one of many organizations providing essential support to areas impacted by conflict, endemic diseases, and natural disasters. Since 1971, MSF has been on the ground responding to crises around the world. Workers in the field face daily challenges that require adaptability and quick thinking, as each new outbreak or attack requires a new approach. Despite the difficulties, MSF continues to provide lifesaving medical care to those in need. Amy Leah will provide an in-depth look at the experiences and lessons learned from working in the field with MSF.

This event is part of the Spring 2023 Speaker series.
