Laughing in the Dark: The Art of Comedic Filmmaking

Laughter is a tonic that lifts our spirits. In times of crisis, comedy has the power to transcend barriers of taste, gender, nationality, or class, and provide welcome relief from the stresses of everyday life. A shared laugh can reverberate across the globe and leave us feeling less alone, but what makes something funny and how do you harness this incredibly visceral power and make it work? Join us for this engaging and interactive crash-course in movie comedy and gain a deeper understanding of how a select group of filmmakers have used the unique tools of cinema to elicit chuckles, guffaws and even tears of joy.

This event is part of the Fall 2023 Speaker series.
